Bio for Shannen Kelly

Shannen Kelly formally joined the ASTA team in 2022 and serves as ASTA’s Senior Manager of Regulatory and Scientific Affairs. However, she has worked closely with ASTA’s staff and member companies on a variety of scientific initiatives since 2020. In her current role, she provides guidance to members on complex regulatory and scientific issues that affect the spice industry. She also works to execute ASTA’s regulatory and technical affairs strategy by monitoring regulatory developments, developing member resources on regulatory and technical affairs matters to assist compliance activities for member companies, and serving as the primary staff liaison to several association committees.

Prior to joining ASTA, Shannen served in several scientific roles working with other food-related trade associations, including the International Organization of the Flavor Industry (IOFI), International Association of Color Manufacturers (IACM), and the Flavor and Extract Manufacturers Association (FEMA). She has a strong background in scientific project management, technical writing, and member engagement.

Shannen received her BS in Environmental Science from Hollins University and is slated to receive her MS in Environmental Science and Policy from Johns Hopkins Krieger School of Arts & Sciences in May 2022. Although she is originally from New England, she now lives outside of DC with her boyfriend and their dog, Luke. She enjoys traveling, reading, and hiking.
