Hear from FDA about the latest pesticide residue enforcement policies
This webinar will include an overview of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA)’s testing, monitoring, and enforcement policies for pesticide residues in foods generally, and specifically how FDA will address chlorpyrifos residues in/on foods that recently had tolerances revoked by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). In the United States, the EPA establishes pesticide tolerances on foods, however, it is the role of the FDA to enforce the EPA pesticide tolerances for domestic and imported foods, with the exception of meat, poultry, catfish, and certain egg products that are regulated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
In February, FDA released a guidance document titled Questions and Answers Regarding Channels of Trade Policy for Human Food Commodities with Chlorpyrifos Residues: Guidance for Industry that outlines the agency’s planned enforcement strategy for food containing chlorpyrifos residues in the coming months and years.

Dr. Charlotte Liang is a Chemist with more than ten years of scientific and policy review, guidance and regulation development, and qualitative risk assessment experience with the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Dr. Liang provides expert policy, scientific and technical advice, and regulatory assistance to industry, federal, state and local public health officials on issues related to honey, sugar, and pesticide residues in foods. She represented FDA as a member of the U.S. delegation to the Codex Committee on Pesticide Residues between 2016 and 2018. Currently Dr. Liang serves as the U.S. delegate to the Codex Committee on Sugars and is the subject matter expert in honey and honey products for the Office of Food Safety. She serves as a member of the Pesticide Program Dialogue Committee since 2017. Dr. Liang earned her Ph. D. degree in Food Science from the Rutgers University, M.S. degree in Food Science and Technology from the University of Georgia., and B.S. degree in Agricultural Chemistry from the National Taiwan University.
