ASTA Urges Flexibility on FSMA Preventive Controls for Human Food

ASTA submitted comments to FDA on the proposed FSMA rule on preventive controls for human food.  Stressing that the best available science should be the basis for policy, ASTA urged that “one size does not fit all” and the rules must be flexible enough to allow businesses to tailor programs to their unique circumstances. It was also noted that policy should build on effective and reliable industry systems already in use.  ASTA’s HACCP guidance and Clean, Safe Spices were included as resources instrumental in assisting industry in important food safety plan implementation.
